— A Sequel to Wozzeck

A sequel to Alban Berg’s Wozzeck, this piece explores the fate of Marie’s son after the opera’s tragic conclusion. The work is scored for soprano or boy soprano, offering a haunting meditation on intergenerational and historical trauma through the eyes of a child.

I crafted the original libretto in Chinese, later translating it into English and German with the aid of AI and a German-speaking friend and long-term collaborator -- Tricie Bergmann. The piece delves into the cyclical nature of suffering, reframing the unresolved struggle from Wozzeck with poignant, childlike vulnerability.
