The Nanke Dream | 南柯记

Music composition for an unrealized dance

The original drama was written by the famous Ming Dynasty dramatist Tang Xianzu (汤显祖).

Napping beneath a tree, a man dreams of entering an anthill, where he rises to power, marries a princess, and enjoys great wealth. But upon waking, he realizes it was all an illusion, vanishing like a mirage. In this moment of spiritual awakening, he grasps the essence of the Buddhist truth of emptiness—worldly glory, no matter how grand, is ephemeral, and all prosperity eventually fades into the vast, boundless void.

The guiding energies of my composition are rooted in the mystical and the occult.
